Each column excludes accommodation, the one price nobody publishes in advance. The taxi line uses Numbeo’s Vilnius reference of €2.75 plus €1.10 per km.

Note what the mid-range column leaves out: the €7.50 Vilnius day ticket. Against a €1.25 single it only pays from the seventh ride, and few visitors ride seven times.

What a seven-day Lithuania loop costs to travel

Vilnius, Trakai, Kaunas, Klaipėda and Nida in a week is the standard first trip. Every leg was priced in the operators’ booking systems on 31 August 2026.

Accommodation: what we can price, and what we will not invent

Hostel dorms are the one bed price we can name

On Hostelworld on 31 August 2026 dorms started at €15.00 in Vilnius, €11.25 in Kaunas and €10.00 in Klaipėda. Most Vilnius beds sat between €15 and €24, the dearest at €42, at properties including Downtown Forest Hostel & Camping, Mikalo House, Jimmy Jumps House and Bed&Blues.

Hotels, and why we quote no nightly rate

No Lithuanian operator, tourism board or statistics office publishes a current hotel rate we could verify against a primary source, so any guide quoting a confident three-star nightly figure has invented it. Nida and the Curonian Spit in July and August

Read two operators’ calendars instead of adjectives. Neringa’s car levy jumps from €10 off-season to €50 between 20 June and 20 August, and the Lithuanian Sea Museum moves to high season from May to September, taking the aquarium from €10 to €14 and the dolphin show from €12 to €18. Eating

Food and drink: a real menu and a real basket

That basket feeds one person for two to three days, and some lines carried promotional pricing. Numbeo’s Vilnius averages on 28 August 2026, from 1,006 entries, put an inexpensive meal at €12.00, dinner for two at €67.50 and a fast-food combo at €8.00. That runs against the usual advice: on the main tourist street the traditional Lithuanian restaurant is the cheap sit-down option, and €5.95 šaltibarščiai beats an €8.00 burger.

Drink is where the multiple bites. A €5.00 draught is €10.00 a litre against €2.45 for Švyturys at Rimi. A €2.06 café water is €6.24 a litre against €0.53 at Rimi, nearly twelve times more.

Getting Around

City transport: three cities, three fare systems

The three cities share no ticketing system, and the same ride can cost more than double depending on how you pay. Vilnius fares have applied since 1 July 2025.

In Vilnius, tap a contactless bank card on the validator or buy a €1.50 Vilniečio card, sold at the Narvesen shop in Airport Terminal A. In Kaunas and Klaipėda the driver charges €1.50 and the app €0.70, so visitors who skip Žiogas pay double for the same seat. See our Vilnius guide and Kaunas guide.

Taxis, Bolt and the parking trap

Bolt publishes no base fare and no per-kilometre rate for Vilnius, only a note that fares move with traffic, discounts and night fees, so any precise Bolt figure elsewhere is invented. Numbeo’s taxi reference of €2.75 plus €1.10 per km is an order of magnitude, not a quote. Blue-zone parking runs around the clock, so eight hours costs €31.50 and an overnight stay charges while you sleep.

Arrival

Vilnius Airport to the city centre for €0.90

The airport shuttle train is the cheapest transfer in the country: €0.90 for a seven-minute, four-kilometre run to Vilnius central station, ten departures on the day checked. Buses are more frequent at the standard €1.00 or €1.25 fare: 88 and the express 3G to the centre, 1 and 2 to the railway station, 88N and N8 at night. What museums and attractions cost in 2026

The Vilnius Pass is €39 for 24 hours, €49 for 48, €59 for 72 and €46.50 for 24 hours bundled with transport, covering more than 30 attractions. Do the arithmetic: Gediminas Castle Tower €8, MO Museum €11, Valdovų rūmai €13 and the Museum of Occupations €6 come to €38 separately, so it breaks even at about four paid sights a day. Coast Costs

The Curonian Spit: the biggest avoidable cost

Two separate charges stand between Klaipėda and Nida, and almost no English guide mentions the second.

Read the first two rows together. In peak season a car costs €73.20 in ferry and levy before you park it; walking on costs €1.70, and that covers your return on any later day. The levy applies to motor vehicles entering the municipality, so arriving on foot, by bicycle or as a bus passenger avoids it. It is payable at the checkpoints in cash or by card.

A car-free day from Klaipėda costs €1.70 for the ferry, €18.00 to €20.00 for the return bus to Nida and €5.00 for two Nida museums: about €25 all in. Timings sit in our Curonian Spit guide and Klaipėda guide.

Paying

VAT, tipping and how you pay

The standard VAT rate is 21% and it is already inside every displayed price, with reduced rates of 12%, 9%, 5% and 0% for specific categories. Since 1 January 2026 the 12% rate covers accommodation under tourism legislation, scheduled passenger and baggage transport, and admission to cultural institutions and events, all at 9% from 2015 to 31 December 2025. Stays booked on or before 31 December 2025 keep 9%.

Tipping is modest and optional: round up for coffee, and leave roughly 5 to 10% in a restaurant when service was good. Neither the national tourism board nor Go Vilnius publishes an official percentage, so treat any figure as custom rather than rule. Cards and contactless work almost everywhere, buses included.

Living Here

Cost of living in Vilnius versus visiting

A resident’s transport line is a 30-day JUDU pass at €38.00, against the €2.50 to €3.75 a day a visitor spends on singles. Numbeo’s Vilnius market prices on 28 August 2026 track the Rimi shelf closely: milk €1.33 a litre, white bread €1.47 for 500 g, twelve eggs €2.99, cheese €9.30 a kilo, chicken fillets €7.13 a kilo and potatoes €0.83 a kilo. Its transport figures match the official list exactly, at €1.00 a single and €38.00 a month.

A visitor pays 12% VAT on a room, museum admissions and the Old Town premium; a resident pays rent and utilities. This page publishes no rent figure, because none could be verified against a primary source.
