The ferry and the Neringa fee: budget these before you book
The Curonian Spit is reached by a short ferry from Klaipėda (the crossing is under 10 minutes). Two terminals matter: the Old Ferry (Senoji perkėla) near Klaipėda Old Town is for pedestrians, cyclists and pets only — no cars — while the New Ferry (Naujoji perkėla) about 2 km south is the one for cars and buses.

The cost most guides miss: driving into the Neringa municipality (Juodkrantė and Nida) needs a separate vehicle entry fee, collected at the Alksnynė post or prepaid online. Klaipėda — the practical, best-value base
The mainland port city at the ferry is the region’s transport hub with the widest choice: hostels and budget hotels through 3–4 star Old Town and boutique hotels to the large riverfront Amberton. Ideal for car-free travellers and short trips doing the Spit as day trips; the Old Town is nearest the passenger ferry.
